BOHÉMIENNE

BOHÉMIENNE exhibition brings together contemporary art, publishing, and performance in celebration of the artists and cultural figures who create worlds beyond convention.

Presented by Era Contemporary at The Arts League of Philadelphia, with curation by Jessica Libor and gallery direction by Jo Gamel, the exhibition explores the enduring spirit of bohemia as a space of creative freedom, experimentation, and self-invention. The gallery will feature contemporary artworks alongside art publications, including Create! Magazine, The Untitled Magazine, and New Visionary Magazine, as well as other written works.

Bohémienne exhibition explores Bohemia as a transhistorical state of mind: a timeless creative ethos where freedom, beauty, imagination, and artistic courage transcend convention. Bringing together visual art, literature, and print culture, the exhibition traces this enduring spirit from nineteenth-century Paris and Poe's Philadelphia to contemporary artists and writers who continue to shape culture through lives devoted to creative expression.

Join us for the opening reception on Sunday, October 11, featuring a special performance by Alex Tatarsky at 7:30 PM.

Tatarsky is a New York and Philadelphia-based performer, writer, and experimental clown artist whose work moves between performance art, comedy, poetry, physical theater, dance-theater, and improvised rant. Through absurdity, humor, and direct interaction with audiences, their performances examine the construction of identity, narrative, power, and community. Tatarsky has presented work in MoMA PS1, the 2024 Whitney Biennial, and is a recipient of a 2020 Pew Fellowship and a 2025 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant to Artists in Performance Art/Theater.
