





Landscape Painting into Abstraction (fall 1)
Fall 1: September 15-November 2
MONDAYS
Time: 6PM-8PM
Class Description:
Working from photos, memory and outdoor sketches students will paint landscape compositions that explore representation into abstraction and the suggestion of a place rather than a literal depiction. This is a mixed levels class for students with some painting experience and is also suitable for beginners. Experienced students can continue their practice and experiment with different techniques, looking at some of the great abstract painters for ideas. Students will paint with Acrylic paint on canvas and board. There will be instruction for beginners for the best practices to use with student to professional acrylic paints, learning to mix their own colors.

Mary Powers-Holt studied visual arts at the PA Academy of the Fine Arts and Art History at the University of Pennsylvania through the Academy and Penn's coordinated B.F.A.and Certificate program. She was awarded the J. Henry Schiedt Traveling Scholarship in her fourth year at the PA Academy. Mary is a Cerulean Arts Collective Gallery member in Philadelphia and has exhibited her work in six solo shows since 2017. In 2025 she exhibited her work in the two person show “Just A Moment” curated by Inliquid at the Wanamaker House. Her home and studio are in Chester County, PA.
