Intro to Gelliprinting (Spring 2)

Class Description:
Discover the expressive possibilities of gelliprinting in this six-session introductory course designed for students interested in experimental printmaking (without a printing press!). Through guided demonstrations and hands on studio practice, participants will explore a range of printing methods while developing an understanding of color, composition, and layered image making.
Course Outline
Session 1: Collagraph Monoprinting
Create textured plates using a variety of materials and learn to pull nuanced, richly layered monoprints.
Session 2: Paint Marker & Charcoal Transfers Experiment with direct drawing transfer methods that integrate gestural linework and tonal variation into your prints.
Session 3: Image Transfers Explore techniques for incorporating photographic and printed imagery into gelliprints to achieve complex, mixed media surfaces.
Session 4: Printing on Fabric Expand your practice by printing on fabric surfaces, producing custom pouches and tote bags using fabric-safe approaches.
Session 5: Printing on Wooden Jewelry (Part I) Learn how to prepare and print on wood substrates while beginning the design of your own wearable pieces.
Session 6: Printing on Wooden Jewelry (Part II) Complete your jewelry designs through additional printing, sealing, and finishing techniques to create polished, wearable works.
This course is suited for beginners as well as artists seeking to broaden their printmaking vocabulary. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required.
Teacher Info:
Kaili Woop is a multimedia artist and designer based in Astoria, Queens. In 2023, she graduated from SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Fine Arts. She was a 2023 recipient of the Robert Blackburn Printmaking award and the SUNY Chancellor award. Her artwork has been displayed at US+U gallery in Yonkers, The SUNY Chancellor’s Gallery, The Alpha Workshops Gallery, AHA Fine Art Gallery, The Museum at FIT, and the Plaxall Gallery at Long Island City Culture Club. She has been teaching workshops for over two years with US+U, QED Astoria and Queens Collaborative. Kaili is currently passionate about developing her own wearable art and design brand using traditional printmaking techniques for clothing and accessories.
