Class Description:
Build a foundation in all aspects of pottery, developing skills and techniques for making functional pieces you can use and enjoy. Demos and hands-on instruction in throwing, trimming and glazing will allow students of all levels to develop and refine their work. Students will develop their ability to see, explore ideas and create with curiosity. This is primarily a class for those developing wheel throwing skills but several projects will incorporate hand building techniques. Come and discover the possibilities with clay!
Required Supplies:
Clay: Available for purchase using the add-on below or in the studio on arrival. No outside clay is allowed.
Tools: Available for purchase using the add-on below or in the studio. We also have a limited supply of shared tools.
Weekly open studio hours:
Fridays 6 - 9 PM
Saturdays 1 - 4 PM
Sundays 1 - 4 PM
Mondays 3 - 6 PM
Teacher Info:
Claire Engelhardt is a woodfired ceramic artist and educator based in West Philly. With well over a decade of experience working with clay, she has a wide range of techniques to share for both handbuilding and wheel throwing. Her current work revolves around the practice of firing ceramics in a wood kiln; to be in community with a crew of people working together to fire the kiln, and in collaborating with the kiln to bring to life her creatures out of fire and ash.
