Molding Memory: Intro to Writing Personal Essays

$120.00

SUMMER: JUNE 29 - AUGUST 16

Dates:
7/21, 7/28, 8/4

Time:
6 PM - 8 PM

Class Description:

Everyone has a story to tell and a reason they need to tell it. This workshop will introduce students to the form of the essay, providing examples of different types of essays and inviting students to discuss what differentiates them and what we can take for our own writing practices.

This workshop is geared towards emerging writers and folks new to writing creative nonfiction. Whether you want to submit your work to literary magazines, write personal essays for a blog, or do self-archival work for you or your loved ones, this workshop will help you find the best way to tell your story.

Through discussion and prompt-based exercises, students will learn craft elements and forms of essay writing, playing with tense, point of view, narration, dialogue, and more to see what their memories need to appear on the page.

Students will leave with at least two shorter prompt responses and one full-length essay that will receive feedback from the instructor along with recommendations on where to submit their work, if requested.
