Intro to Nerikomi (Fall 2)

$60.00

DATE:
11/22

TIME:
4:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Class Description:

In this class, we'll be learning about Nerikomi, a traditional Japanese technique of layering different colored clay bodies to create agate or marbled surfaces. This technique can be seen in candy making, laminating pastry dough, some beadwork in polymer clay, knifemaking techniques and many other spaces. In this class each guest can use provided bisque molds or free build to make a set of dishes or bowls for your home. We will be using Brown, white and Blue Clay during our time together. This class is open to all levels of clay, and is super approachable for beginners.

Teacher Info:

Mackenzie Pikaart is a ceramic artist based in Philadelphia. Her work is rooted in memory, emotion, and the quiet rhythms of daily life. She creates functional pieces that reflect moments of introspection, using form, color, and texture to explore the space between solitude and connection. Inspired by architecture, poetry, music, and rainy days, her ceramics invite reflection and care. Designed for daily use, each piece becomes part of personal rituals and shared experiences. Mackenzie holds a BFA in Crafts/Ceramics from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she lives and works. In addition to her studio practice, she is a ceramics educator, consultant, and wholesaler.
