$250.00

SPRING 1: MARCH 2 - APRIL 19

WEDNESDAYS
3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8

Time:
6PM - 8PM

Open Studio Week:
4/13 - 4/19

Class Description:

Create soft illustrations using a variety of applique techniques! Open to all levels of experience, this class will take a deep dive into skills for designing and stitching an applique tapestry or lap blanket.

We will begin with the essential skills for designing, cutting, and assembling an image made out of salvaged fabrics, and stitched to a single surface to create a soft illustration. Additional techniques to explore include embroidery, 3-dimensional shapes, and hand-quilting an additional layer.

Participants can expect to play with both machine and hand-stitched techniques, upcycled fabric, and to create their own lap blanket or wall tapestry to take home.

Teacher Info:

Cecilia McKinnon is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from California and New Mexico, currently living and working in Philadelphia. McKinnon’s work draws on found and salvaged materials, and takes form as dyed and quilted textiles, biodegradable cast objects, moving images, and creative writing. She holds a Master of Fine Art in Fibers + Material Practices from Concordia University in Montréal, and a BFA from the University of New Mexico.
