Intro to Patchwork and Visible Mending (Spring 1)

$170.00

SPRING 1: MARCH 2 - APRIL 19

SUNDAYS
3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29

Time:
12PM - 2PM

Class Description:

In this class, we will explore visible mending and adornment using free hand and sashiko techniques in order to revive a pair of pants or a jacket that you already own. Think woven items as opposed to knit - things with limited stretch. In each class we will start with a demonstration on a new type of mending/appliqué/etc. and then work individually.

Class schedule:

Class one: Sashiko mending - 101

- In this class, students will be introduced to sashiko visible mending through through a verbal and visual demonstration using a grid, with a focus on mending examples from Jess’s wardrobe/collection.

- We will diagnose any repairs needed and start with the repair first, then the reinforcement stitching.

Class two: Sashiko mending - 201 (weaving/grid)

- Class will begin with a demonstration of an already completed plus grid (from last week) and Jess demonstrates weaving in front of the students.

- Students will then have free time to work on their piece. Will be available for direct support.

Class three: Appliqué

- In this class, Jess will demonstrate using a patch to look like a shape/object. For example, a fruit or star. Jess will whip-stich the patch on.

- Students will then have free time to work on their piece. Will be available for direct support.

Class four: freehand drawing

- In this class, Jess will demonstrate how to stitch something you've drawn on the garment with water soluable ink in even stitches. Additionally, we will add free hand stars or additional touches to create a finished look.

NOTE: This class has a $10 Materials Fee
